UNILORIN Announces 2026/2027 Resumption Date, Set to Release Admission List

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced October 5, 2026, as the commencement date for the 2026/2027 academic session, while assuring candidates that those who merit admission will be offered admission irrespective of their background.

The Chairman of the University Admissions Committee, Prof. Abdulazeez Muhammad-Lawal, gave the assurance on Saturday, August 15, 2026, while speaking on the university’s preparations for the admission of new students following the successful completion of the 2026 Post-UTME screening exercise.

According to him, the university is fully prepared to receive new students for the new academic session and all candidates expected to resume will have been offered admission before the October 5 resumption date. "University is well prepared to receive new students for the next academic session beginning from October 5, 2026, stressing that all the new students expected to resume for the session would have been offered admission before the reopening date." HE SAID

Prof. Muhammad-Lawal explained that the Post-UTME screening was conducted to verify candidates’ results and qualifications, as well as assess their knowledge and preparedness for university admission.

He stressed that candidates with authentic results who merit admission should be confident of securing admission, stating, “Any student that merits admission will get admission.”

The Admissions Committee Chairman also dismissed claims that UNILORIN does not admit candidates based on merit, describing such claims as untrue.

He explained that, in line with the Federal Government’s admission policy, 45 percent of the university’s admissions are strictly reserved for merit candidates, regardless of their state of origin or connections within the university.

He added that 35 percent is allocated to candidates from the university’s catchment areas, while the remaining 20 percent is reserved for candidates from Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS).

Prof. Muhammad-Lawal further stressed that the university is bound by the Federal Government’s admission policy and cannot alter the stipulated admission structure.
