Osun University to graduate 2,471 at 18th convocation, records 200 First Class

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, is set to graduate a total of 2,471 students at its 18th convocation ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, disclosed this during his convocation address on Monday.

According to him, the graduating students comprise 2,030 undergraduates and 441 postgraduate students. Of the undergraduate graduands, 1,903 are regular students while 127 are affiliates.

The university recorded 200 First Class graduates, representing 10.5 per cent of the regular graduating class. Also, 937 students graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 629 with Second Class Lower Division, 126 with Third Class, while 11 graduated with Pass.

At the postgraduate level, graduands will receive Postgraduate Diplomas, MA, MSc, MPhil and PhD degrees.
Speaking on the university’s academic expansion, Akindele disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 10 new undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. The programmes include Broadcasting, Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism and Media Studies, Film Production, Criminology and Security Studies, Biotechnology, Software Engineering and Information Systems, among others.

He also revealed that the university had secured NUC approval to commence Pharmacy, Medicine and Surgery, and Dentistry, with approval from relevant professional bodies still awaited.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that Nursing and Physiotherapy students have maintained a 100 per cent pass rate in their external council examinations in recent years.

He added that eight Accounting students qualified as Chartered Accountants in the May 2026 ICAN diet, with one qualifying while still in 200 Level.

The university also announced full scholarships for six indigenes of Ede.
The 18th convocation activities, which began on October 2, will continue through Friday, October 9, with various ceremonies, lectures, project commissioning and the presentation of degrees and awards.
