WAEC Makes NIN Mandatory for 2027 WASSCE Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially made the National Identification Number (NIN) a compulsory requirement for all candidates registering for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, effective from the 2027 examination cycle.
The directive was contained in an official circular dated September 29, 2026, issued by the WAEC Ikeja Zonal Office and signed by the Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Umeakeke C. C., on behalf of the Council.
According to the circular, the policy decision was finalized following a resolution by the National Staff Examinations Committee (NOSEC). Under the new guidelines, every prospective candidate must supply a valid NIN before their registration process for the 2027 WASSCE for School Candidates can be finalized.
School principals and administrators nationwide have been formally enjoined to inform and advise prospective candidates to obtain their NIN well in advance of the registration exercise to prevent delays and ensure a seamless registration process.
