WAEC Appoint New Registrar

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer for a five-year tenure spanning October 2026 to September 2031.

Dr. Dangut, a Nigerian national and the immediate past Head of National Office (HNO) for WAEC Nigeria, succeeds Alhaji Pateh Bah of The Gambia as the 14th Registrar of the regional body.

His appointment was ratified during WAEC’s 74th Annual Meeting in Accra, Ghana, and officially announced by Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at the WAEC Headquarters.

Born on October 2, 1967, Dr. Dangut holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD in Animal Science obtained in 2017 and a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning completed in 2020.

He began his education career in 1994 before joining WAEC in 1998. Over nearly three decades, he rose through the ranks while holding key administrative positions across test development, examination security, and zonal management operations. Prior to his latest elevation, he served as the HNO of WAEC Nigeria from October 2, 2023, until assuming office as Council Registrar on October 1, 2026.

During his tenure as HNO, Dr. Dangut led major technological reforms to safeguard examination integrity and improve operational efficiency across Nigeria. His initiatives included the introduction of the Computer-Based WASSCE, question paper serialization, a Digital Electronic Marking System, the WAEC Digital Certificate Portal, and the WAEC E-Study Platform.

Dr. Dangut is widely published, serves as the West African Regional Representative on the Executive Board of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), and is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
