Police Arrest Suspected Fake JAMB Coordinator
The Police in Anambra State have arrested a man alleged to be impersonating a coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in what authorities describe as a suspected examination-related fraud case.
The suspect, Eric Nwombu, was picked up on 14 April by operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police Safe School Initiative in Anambra. His arrest followed reports that he was seen at a cyber café in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, where candidates had gathered to confirm their 2026 JAMB examination centres.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was allegedly collecting JAMB examination slips from unsuspecting students under questionable circumstances. He was also found with some documents believed to belong to candidates.
Items recovered from him included eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of students. Police say he was unable to convincingly explain how he got hold of the materials.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the suspect introduced himself at the cyber café as a JAMB 2026 coordinator for the Atani area. However, his behaviour reportedly raised suspicion among staff, who felt uneasy about his activities and decided to alert security operatives.
When police officers arrived at the scene, the suspect allegedly tried to escape but was quickly apprehended.
He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning and investigation to determine the full extent of his involvement and how he obtained the examination materials.
