NECO REVEALS 2026 PASS RATE AND EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE FIGURES
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, recording improved performance compared with the previous year.
According to the NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70% of those who sat for the examination, obtained at least five credits, regardless of their results in English Language and Mathematics.
Meanwhile, 804,948 candidates (58.67%) secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 eventually sat for it. The candidates comprised 678,903 males and 693,089 females.
NECO also reported that 1,334 candidates with special needs participated in the examination.
On examination malpractice, the council recorded a significant decline. 1,406 candidates were involved in malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 cases recorded in 2025, representing a 64.74% reduction.
The Registrar described the 2026 examination as an improvement over the previous year's exercise.
In related development, NECO has rejected any association with so-called “miracle centres,” stating that the council registers examination centres based on established requirements and has no dealings with centres operating outside its approved system.
