UNILORIN Owes No Outstanding NELFUND Refunds – VC
The University of Ilorin has clarified issues surrounding the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) refund process, stating that it is not withholding any outstanding refunds due to eligible students.
In a video obtained by Team Honorable Updates, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, explained that the institution is not indebted to any student regarding NELFUND refunds. According to him, the only students yet to receive their refunds are those whose bank account details submitted for the refund differ from the account information registered on their NELFUND portal.
The affected students are expected to provide the same bank account details used during their NELFUND registration to enable the successful processing of their refunds.
Recall that Team Honorable Updates earlier reported that the University would apply the recently disbursed NELFUND school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session to the 2026/2027 academic session for continuing students. Final-year students, however, were expected to receive refunds since they would no longer be enrolled at the institution.
Students who had already paid their 2025/2026 school fees before the 2024/2025 NELFUND disbursement, as well as students whose NELFUND disbursement exceeded their 2025/2026 school fees, have already received their refunds. According to the University, the only students yet to receive refunds are those whose bank account details provided for the refund process do not match the account details on their NELFUND portal.
In the latest development, Team Honorable Updates gathered that the University has released a refund form specifically for final-year NELFUND beneficiaries. The form contains the matriculation numbers of eligible final-year students and requires them to provide their bank account details for the refund process.
The University also directed beneficiaries to ensure that the bank account submitted on the refund form matches the account registered on their NELFUND portal to avoid delays in the refund process.
