OAU Clarifies NELFUND Disbursement, Explains School Fees Credit Process for Returning Students
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has confirmed the receipt of NELFUND loan disbursement for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to an internal memorandum issued by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. J. A. Odedire, the institution is currently operating two academic sessions concurrently. The 2024/2025 academic session covers students in 200 to 600 levels, while the 2025/2026 academic session currently applies to 100-level students.
The university explained that in order to ensure that 100-level students are not disadvantaged and to enable students in 200 to 600 levels benefit from the monthly stipends attached to the NELFUND scheme, approval was sought and obtained to onboard all categories of students onto the NELFUND loan portal during the application period.
OAU further noted that while eligible students across all levels were allowed to apply, the school charges component of the loan disbursed for students in 200 to 600 levels will not be applied immediately. Instead, the funds will be automatically credited to their portals when they transition into the 2025/2026 academic session.
The clarification was provided to address concerns surrounding the implementation of the loan scheme and to inform students about how the disbursed funds will be managed under the university's current academic structure.
Honorable Updates reports that the development means eligible students in higher levels can still benefit from the monthly upkeep allowance while awaiting the application of their school fees component in the appropriate academic session.
