NELFUND Expresses Concern Over Unethical Conduct by some Institutions
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has expressed deep concern over emerging reports of unethical practices being carried out by several tertiary institutions across the country.
According to an official public notice released from Abuja on Monday, June 29, 2026, the fund flagged some institutions for willfully delaying or outrightly refusing to refund students who had already self-funded their tuition fees prior to receiving NELFUND disbursements. NELFUND also condemned arbitrary hikes in tuition and other institutional service charges.
The management emphasized that the Student Loan Scheme is an initiative established under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR was purposefully designed to eliminate financial barriers hindering access to higher education, rather than creating additional financial weights for Nigerian students.
