Kogi Varsity Sends Over 200 Students Home Over Poor Academic Performance
Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the withdrawal of 229 students following poor academic performance across different programmes in the institution.
The decision was reached during the institution’s Academic Board meeting held on Monday, May 12, 2026, presided over by the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime.
The meeting reportedly had in attendance principal officers, deans, heads of departments, alongside members of the Academic Board, where several academic issues affecting the Polytechnic were discussed.
According to information released by the institution, the affected students were drawn from both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes across various departments, including Accountancy, Business Administration, Computer Science, Public Administration, Mass Communication, Science Laboratory Technology, Office Technology and Management, as well as Library and Information Science.
The Polytechnic explained that the action followed the approval of the first semester examination results for the 2025/2026 academic session after a comprehensive verification exercise carried out by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee.
The institution noted that the committee thoroughly reviewed and verified results submitted by schools and departments to ensure compliance with the institution’s academic regulations and standards.
Speaking after the meeting, the Rector, Professor Avidime, commended members of the verification committee for what he described as their commitment, professionalism, and diligence throughout the exercise.
