Varsity Withdraws Over 50 Students, Expels One, As 44 Graduate With First-class Honours

The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has approved the results of the 2025/2026 second-semester examinations, with 44 students graduating with First-Class Honours.

The decisions were reached during the university’s 168th Regular Meeting of Senate held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, following the consideration of examination results presented by various faculties and departments.

According to the university, the 44 First-Class graduands came from several departments, including Computer Science, Economics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Arabic and Islamic Studies, among others.

However, the university also approved the withdrawal of 56 students over various academic deficiencies.

Of the 56 students withdrawn, 11 were withdrawn for poor academic performance, while 38 were withdrawn for failing to register for two consecutive semesters. Another seven students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science were withdrawn due to failed modules and course deficiencies.

In a related development, the Senate approved the expulsion of one student, Jude Ojoajogwu Itodo, from the Department of Plant Sciences and Biotechnology over what the university described as gross examination misconduct.

The decisions, according to the university, were taken in line with its existing Academic Regulations.
The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the 44 First-Class graduands and commended the committees responsible for verifying the examination results and handling the examination misconduct case.

He described the students’ achievement as a result of hard work, discipline, dedication and commitment to academic excellence, while encouraging other students to remain focused and make use of the university’s learning and research environment.

Meanwhile, all withdrawn and expelled students have been directed to surrender university property, including identity cards and other official items, to the university’s Security Unit before leaving the institution.
