UNILAG Executives Announce 2026/2027 Resumption Date, Hostel Balloting, Campus Closure for Online Lectures

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced key plans for the 2026/2027 academic session following a meeting involving the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the University of Lagos Students’ Union (ULSU) executives and faculty presidents.

According to the information shared at the meeting, resumption for the 2026/2027 academic session is slated for October 26, 2026.

Meanwhile, the balloting exercise for halls of residence is expected to proceed as scheduled on Friday. Students who are allocated bed spaces will thereafter be required to pay the applicable hostel fees and complete their hostel registration.

The university is reportedly working towards having the halls of residence ready for students from the first day of resumption. Payment and registration for allocated bed spaces are expected to remain open until the third week of resumption.

Students have also been advised to resume with minimal luggage, as all halls of residence, including private hostels, are expected to be completely vacated during the December break.

The measure is said to be connected to security considerations surrounding the forthcoming 2027 General Elections and the Eko Games, with the university prioritising the safety of students.

Following the vacation of students from the hostels during the December break, first semester lectures are expected to continue virtually in January until the end of the semester.

Students are thereafter expected to return to campus for their physical examinations.

The university is also expected to postpone its convocation ceremony, previously scheduled for January, to March 2027 on a tentative basis.

The adjustment is reportedly due to the forthcoming 2027 General Elections and the Eko Games.

Special consideration will reportedly be given to persons living with disabilities, university sports representatives and students with verified medical cases in the allocation of hostel accommodation.

Students are advised to take note of these developments and make adequate plans ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.
