A total of 126,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects. The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026.
The Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, disclosed this on Thursday in an official statement. He also announced that the Award Committee has approved the date for the 2026 BECE re-sit examination.
According to him, the release of the results followed the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the release of the results.
The Award Committee further approved that the 2026 BECE re-sit examination will hold on July 22 and 23, 2026, for Mathematics and English Studies.
She explained that the re-sit examination is designed for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both. It provides affected candidates the opportunity to correct their deficiencies and obtain the required certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating an entire academic year.
The BECE, conducted by NECO, is an examination for pupils completing the nine-year Basic Education programme in Nigeria. It serves as a key assessment for placement into Senior Secondary School.
