FG Cancels UTME Requirement for NCE Admission Nationwide, Announces New Requirement

The Federal Government has announced the removal of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirement for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes across colleges of education in the country.

The development was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Monday during the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting held in Abuja.

According to the new directive, candidates interested in NCE programmes will only need a minimum of four O’level credits to gain admission, without sitting for the UTME examination.

The minister explained that the decision is part of efforts to reduce the administrative workload on JAMB and improve access to teacher education programmes nationwide.

The new policy is expected to bring significant changes to the admission process into colleges of education and may encourage more candidates to pursue NCE programmes.

More details later.
