JAMB Begins Review of Colleges of Education Illegal Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced moves to address cases of candidates admitted into colleges of education outside the approved admission process.

As part of the exercise, the board has asked colleges of education nationwide to identify and forward the records of affected candidates for consideration under a recent government approval.

The move covers irregular admissions made during the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions following approval by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for eligible cases to be considered for condonement.

JAMB, in its communication to the institutions, instructed provosts to ensure that the details submitted are complete and properly verified. The information is expected to be provided electronically using the format prescribed by the board.

The institutions have also been cautioned against leaving out relevant candidates or providing incorrect details, as discrepancies in the records could affect the processing of the cases.

The exercise is expected to help regularise the status of candidates whose admissions were not processed through the established admission system.

Over the years, cases of institutions admitting students outside approved procedures have raised concerns over the validity and recognition of such admissions. Affected students may subsequently encounter difficulties when they need official admission records for academic or other purposes.

Through the review, candidates whose cases fall within the scope of the ministerial approval will have their records examined by JAMB for possible condonement.

However, inclusion on an institution's list does not automatically guarantee approval, as the submitted records will still be subject to verification and consideration in line with the conditions of the exercise.
