NUC Approves 24 New Academic Programmes for KWASU Ahead of 2026/2027 Session

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 24 new academic programmes for Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2026, signed by the NUC's Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh.

According to a statement issued by the university's Director of University Relations, Prof. Saeedat Aliyu, the newly approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate courses.

The undergraduate programmes include Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Nursing Science, Educational Technology, Guidance and Counselling, Health Education, Entrepreneurship Education, Insurance and Risk Management, Technology Education, Community Health Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.

The postgraduate programmes approved by the commission are M.A. and Ph.D. in Fine and Applied Arts, M.A. and Ph.D. in Performing Arts, M.A. in Linguistics, PGD, M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology, Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ph.D. in Public Administration, and Ph.D. in Mass Communication.

Reacting to the development, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jimoh expressed appreciation to members of staff who contributed to the successful resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC.

He reaffirmed the university's commitment to maintaining excellence in teaching, research, and community service while producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to national and global development.
