The First Lady Commissioned ICT Experience Centre at KWASU
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art N1 billion ICT Experience Centre at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
The project, executed under the joint Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) ICT Experience Centre programme, is designed to enhance practical digital competencies, innovation, and technological learning across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq; and First Lady of Imo State, Barr. Chioma Uzodinma.
Delivering the First Lady's address, Nana Shettima announced that the Federal Government is expanding the ICT Experience Centre project to 15 additional tertiary institutions across the country, with ongoing construction in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Yobe, and Zamfara states. KWASU was selected as one of the initial six institutions representing Nigeria's geopolitical zones in the pilot phase, with upcoming inaugurations planned for Kaduna State University and Taraba State University.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arc. Olajide Babatunde, stated that the fully air-conditioned facility features advanced ICT laboratories, interactive digital displays, conference rooms, exhibition halls, and dedicated alternative power infrastructure.
He added that the facility will provide hands-on training for students and lecturers in critical emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Software Development, ultimately aiming to boost graduate employability by applying technology to key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, security, media, and mining.
The First Lady urged the students of KWASU to take full ownership of the multi-million naira infrastructure and leverage technology constructively for national development and personal growth.
