FG Declares Public Holiday
The Federal Government has approved Thursday, October 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Minister extended his congratulations to Nigerians both within the country and abroad, urging citizens to continue promoting national unity, patriotism, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
Tunji-Ojo noted that peace and stability remain important to the country’s progress, while describing Nigeria’s cultural and ethnic diversity as an important national strength.
He further called on Nigerians to uphold the values of patriotism demonstrated by the country’s founding fathers and contribute to building a nation that future generations will be proud of.
The Minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing national security, strengthening public safety and creating a conducive environment for Nigerians to live, work and pursue their legitimate aspirations.
