Nigerian Law School Withdraws Best Graduate’s Prize, Sanctions Students
The Council of Legal Education (CLE), the governing body of the Nigerian Law School, has withdrawn the prize presented to the institution’s best graduating student in Professional Ethics following the circulation of a photograph considered inappropriate.
The decision was disclosed in a statement dated August 19, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration.
The Council said it reviewed the circumstances surrounding the award and the photograph before reaching its decision. It noted that the attire worn by the recipient in the photograph did not align with the professional standards and decorum expected within the legal profession.
In its statement, the Council said it “considered the circumstances surrounding the award of the prize for the best graduating student in professional ethics” and approved its withdrawal following the circulation of the photograph online.
The withdrawal comes after the photograph gained attention online, prompting the governing body to review the circumstances surrounding the award.
Beyond the withdrawal of the prize, the Council also approved sanctions against two students who were found guilty of indiscipline-related misconduct.
