Senators Raise Concerns Over Transport, NELFUND, ID Cards, Others

The Students’ Union Senate Council, University of Ilorin, 5th Ordinary Sitting of the Senate Council which commenced exactly at 10:40 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with several matters of public importance raised during the sitting, as gathered by the Senate Spokesperson, Senator Midey.

During the sitting, Senator Babs raised concerns over the extortion carried out by korope drivers. She cited a situation she personally witnessed and implored the school management to caution the drivers against exploiting students through excessive transport charges.

Senator Alasela raised concerns regarding the disbursement of NELFUND loans to students. He also addressed the stigmatization of students living in Ileapa, stating that they are often treated as though they are not part of the student community. He suggested that the CEC and Senate Council should look into the matter and pay an official visit to the community. He further emphasized the importance of senators’ welfare during lengthy deliberations, stating that refreshments should be made available to senators.

Senator Myra also raised concerns about the activities of keke riders at the college. According to her, many riders deliberately refuse to convey students to PS despite being available, thereby leaving students stranded and frustrated.

Senator Snazzy raised issues concerning the unavailability of student ID cards for some students, noting that it could hinder them from writing examinations. He also complained about the lack of access to school Wi-Fi for students between 100 and 300 level, the overgrown bushes around the school environment, and the failure of the NOC to register students for Wi-Fi access.

Senator Kuti raised concerns over grass-cutting activities during lecture hours, stating that the activities serve as distractions to students during learning.

Senator Omoware raised concerns about the college sick bay, which remains non-functional, as well as the yet-to-be-functional CNG kekes.

Senator Cecelia raised concerns regarding the lack of permanent ID cards in her faculty. She also complained about the unreliable power supply affecting students living in Oke-Osi and Agbede, the poor accessibility to the library at night, and the inadequate lighting in college halls where only two bulbs are available. She further stressed the need for a shade to protect students from the sun while waiting for keke.

After the senators raised their matters of public importance, the Senate President, Senator Phoenix, addressed the issues raised. He responded to some of the concerns by explaining how the system and implementation process work in certain departments. He also noted some of the points raised by the senators and assured the house that they would be forwarded to the appropriate offices for proper attention and resolution.

Following this, committee reports were presented by Senator Fresh, Chairman of the Transport Committee (Permanent Site), Senator Greatest Ola, Chairman of the Price Control Committee (PS), and Senator Omoware, Secretary of the Transport Committee (COHS), who also presented the report of the Price Control Committee in his capacity as Chairman.

Abeg make una find solution to dis transport issues cos it's not meeting the good side of the students at all.

This nelfund thing too..some 2022/2023 FCMB students have not been refunded
