Federal Government Opens 2025/2026 PTDF Scholarship Portal: How to Apply

The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the 2025/2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in-country scholarship scheme for Nigerian students studying engineering and related disciplines in universities across the country.

The application portal officially opened on Monday, April 20, 2026, and qualified candidates have until Friday, May 29, 2026, to complete and submit their applications.

The PTDF scholarship programme is designed to provide financial support for undergraduate and postgraduate students in oil, gas, engineering, and allied fields. The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s effort to strengthen local capacity, develop technical manpower, and reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign expertise in the energy sector.

Interested applicants are to complete their registration through the official PTDF scholarship portal at:
https://scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng

Application Procedure

To successfully apply for the PTDF scholarship, applicants are expected to carefully follow the official application process outlined below:

1. Create an Account

Applicants are required to visit the PTDF scholarship portal and create an account by providing their personal details. After registration, a confirmation email will be sent with instructions on how to activate the account and set a password.

This account gives applicants access to their application dashboard where every stage of the process will be completed.

2. Login to the Portal

After setting up the account, applicants are to log in using their registered email address and password.

Once logged in, candidates will gain access to the application dashboard to continue the registration.

3. Verify NIN

Candidates must verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding with the application.

PTDF advised applicants to avoid repeated unsuccessful verification attempts to prevent multiple charges. Those facing issues during verification are encouraged to use the support channel available on the portal.

4. Accept Terms and Conditions

Applicants are required to read and accept the scholarship terms and conditions before moving to the next stage.

Failure to accept the terms will automatically prevent the application from progressing.

5. Complete the Application Form

Candidates are expected to fill in all sections of the application form with accurate personal and academic information.

Applicants must ensure that all details entered are correct, as incorrect information may affect their chances of selection.

Required files and documents must also be uploaded in the specified format.

6. Select Preferred Course and Institution

Applicants will be required to choose their preferred course and institution based on the approved list of eligible programmes.

Candidates can select first, second, and third choices.

For postgraduate applicants, additional documents such as a statement of purpose for MSc applications or a research proposal for PhD applications will also be required.

These documents help PTDF assess the academic relevance and goals of the applicant.

7. Upload Required Documents

Applicants must upload all required supporting documents during the application process.

These documents include:

* Academic certificates
* Birth certificate
* Local government identification
* Admission documents where required
* Other academic credentials

All uploaded documents must meet the portal’s specified size and format requirements.

Failure to provide the necessary documents may result in disqualification.

8. Upload Additional Credentials

Where applicable, applicants may upload additional credentials such as:

* Professional certificates
* Membership of professional bodies
* Academic publications

These may improve the applicant’s profile, especially for postgraduate applications.

9. Review Application

Before final submission, applicants are expected to carefully review every section of the form to confirm that all information and uploaded documents are accurate.

This review stage allows candidates to correct mistakes before submission.

10. Submit the Application

After reviewing all information, applicants can submit their application through the portal.

PTDF emphasized that once an application is submitted, it cannot be edited.

Candidates are therefore advised to crosscheck all information before final submission.

Objective of the PTDF Scholarship

The PTDF in-country scholarship scheme was introduced to support the training of Nigerian students in strategic sectors relevant to the petroleum industry.

The programme seeks to enhance Nigeria’s technical capacity by investing in students studying engineering, petroleum-related courses, and other fields considered important for national development.

Unlike the overseas scholarship scheme, the in-country programme supports students studying within Nigerian universities.

Successful applicants are usually provided with:

* Tuition support
* Monthly stipends
* Learning materials assistance

Beneficiaries are selected based on merit, academic performance, and the relevance of their field of study to the manpower needs of the nation’s oil and gas sector.

Eligible students are encouraged to complete their applications early through the official PTDF portal before the deadline on May 29, 2026.
