Northwest University, Kano State, has expelled 34 students for their involvement in examination malpractice during the Second Semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
The decision was approved by the University's Senate at its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, 2026, following the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct.
According to a statement issued by the Head of the University's Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. Isyaku Adamu, the disciplinary measures were taken in line with the University's Examination Regulations as contained in the Students' Handbook.
In addition to the 34 expulsions, the Senate approved the rustication of 18 students for various examination offences, while 22 others received warning letters for lesser violations. The sanctions were determined based on the severity of each case.
The University also cleared one student, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri, after an investigation found insufficient evidence to establish her involvement in examination misconduct.
Reaffirming its commitment to academic integrity, the University urged students to comply with examination regulations and avoid all forms of malpractice. The management emphasized that examination misconduct attracts serious penalties, including warning, rustication, or expulsion, depending on the nature of the offence, while encouraging students to uphold honesty, discipline, and hard work in their academic pursuits.
